I remember in the mid 90's comming across the 1st Kickback cd, This was the first french hardcore cd I ever bought & to be honest I didn't know what to expect. I was blown away, France let me know that there was more to hardcore than just New York, I soon came across so many French HC bands UNDERGROUND SOCIETY, AWOL, TRAPPED IN LIFE & not forgetting STORMCORE.. that was then, now 15 years later France is taking my hardcore collection by storm once again, Such bands as LAZARE, HELL BURNS AWAY, RISE OF THE NORTHSTAR, PROVIDENCE.. & Now SLAM COKE.

I was sent a Shirt from my good friend ED GOODLIFE over a year ago, so this band has been on the hype for over a year.. So finally the first SLAM COKE cd is hear.

I didn't know what to expect, I had heard a few tunes, but not really gave it that much listen because I wanted to hear the whole album when it was done with fresh ears.

I have no idea what SLAM COKE means or even what a Slam cookie is haha, But I do know that Fick die Kaputt is german for "fuck this place up".

I unwrap the CD to look at the inlay & read the lyrics, & there are none, but wait there is a message "YOU WANT TO READ, BUY A BOOK", Haha.. I always used to say that when I bought a new computer game, I never read the instructions.. I would say I wanna play a game not read a book, so even though it has no lyrics to read, I can relate to what there saying.

First tune Introduction in my nose A drum & bass tune, not what I expected.. then track too comes MOSH FOR ZOMBIES.. here we go this is what I wanna hear.. its that slow deathcore with pig squeals, I love this shit.. really slow & really heavy.
Then we come to track 5 which is the FICK DIE BUDE KAPUTT tune.. this song has more guest vocals than a Dr Dre album..Nasty, Kraanium, King Of Clubz, Oerjgrinder, Balboa/Des Mafios, Butcher, The Last Charge, Black Teeth, Mob Rules, Dead End Tragedy, Abnormity, Punished Earth, United Blood, Putrified J All apear on that track.. holy shit I hear you say.. the track is amazing.. & I hear Part 2 for this song is already in the pipeline with the same amount of guests on, I can't wait for that.. should be comming 2012.

The next 4 songs are grindcore with a Hardcore influence & then we come to
the track LETHAL DOSE which is also drum & bass, the 2 last songs are Dubstep, production "TC4" from Uk ! and theres even some reggea thrown in from JAZZAFARI BEEBOP" , track 12 entitled features "MONSTA" a grime guy from Uk !

Too be honest i'm not a Drum & bass fan at all, but with this album it works.. the whole cd stays fresh all the way through.. the mix of different styles keeps it interesting.. its keep me busy all week on my Mp3 player while I have been at the gym..

This CD dosn't dissapoint, it really has taken hardcore to the next level.. I can't wait to see what they come up with on the next SLAM COKE CD.

RISE OF THE NORTHSTAR - Tokyo assault REVIEW.

YES FRANCE AGAIN, this time PARIS, Shibuya departement & Ile-de-France.
This cd is fucking amazing, thats the first thing I need to say.
Great sound really polished, Its MOSH METAL I think is best to describe it.
Track 1 starts with a nice clean guitar tune, then boom in it comes MOSH IT UP.
only 5 tracks on this cd which sucks, but they are so good you will play it over & over again & not get bored.

Hip HOP influenced hardcore, but with a nice metal Anthrax kinda mosh parts.

They describe themselves as Onizuka Hardcore what ever that is :)
Five people in this band, you might have seen there music vid online for the song Protect your chest, unfortunaltely that song is not on this cd, but lucky its going to be on the upcomming Goodlife records comp CD BEATDOWN BASTERDS.

This band is gonna be HUGE TRUST ME, get this CD you will love it.

ULTIMHATE - In your ass bastard volume 2 REVIEW.

It seems like the French are invading european hardcore these days, so yes this band comes from France, Rennes home of the great STORMCORE.
The title for the cd makes me laugh straight away In your ass bastard volume 2, but this is the 2nd release, I read online somewhere they did an album in 2008 which I need to track down now.

Intro tune is a nice bit of HIP HOP, only 5 songs on the cd, its very similar to LZR, also this band has 2 vocals.
A groovy hatebreed with a mix of Kickback with ace moshparts.
Track number 3 has to be my favorite of this cd PISS ON YOUR GRAVE.
& yes you guessed by the title & the name of this band, Tuff guy lyric style, I don't think there are any bands from france that I don't like, So this is another great new band from the land of Croissants.

The only think I don't like about this cd is I wanna hear more, whens the next cd out??

HEADSHOT - fight for reality Review.

I don't know much about this band headshot & have never heard of them untill I was given there CD at a recent show in Belgium.

HEADSHOT are a 6 piece from the Kortrijk area of BEL also known as H8000.
9 tracks on this release, its pretty much tuff guy but they mix it up a little, there's a slight H8000 classic sound with some streetpunkparty vibe thrown in too, but still plenty of hard fast 2 step parts & sweet breakdowns that will get you out your chairs & on the dance floor.

The Cd starts with a nice HELLRAISER sample & then straight into the first song, no big long intro like lots of bands seem to do these days, No messing about.
The twin vocal attack fit really well togeather, I don't want to say too much about this band because there will be an interview soon & then go more in depth.

I really enjoy this cd, & play it alot, I hope I get to check these guys out live soon.

Poly Styrene RIP.

Musicians and fans have paid tribute to inspirational punk pioneer Poly Styrene - frontwoman of X-Ray Spex - who has died after a battle with cancer.

The singer, who was 53, scored chart hits with tracks such as Identity, The Day The World Turned Day-Glo and Germ Free Adolescents.

Styrene had recently promoted her comeback album Generation Indigo from a hospice after breast cancer spread to her lungs and spine before it could be diagnosed.

Billy Bragg praised the feisty star, saying she made "a truly original contribution to the spirit of punk".

The half-Somali singer, whose real name was Marianne Elliot Said, notably appeared on TV and in publicity shots with braces on her teeth when the band were at their height in the late 1970s.

Styrene - a Hare Krishna convert - recently predicted she would be remembered more for her band's anthem and first single Oh Bondage, Up Yours! than her spiritual side.

A statement announcing her death said: "We can confirm that the beautiful Poly Styrene, who has been a true fighter, won her battle on Monday evening to go to higher places."

Born in Bromley, south-east London, which became a crucible for many of punk's movers and shakers, she ran away from home when she was 15 to hitch between music festivals.

Her first release was a reggae track under her own name in 1976 but she went on to form X-Ray Spex after seeing the Pistols perform. Unusually for an early punk act, the line-up included a sax player.

The band's debut single became something of a rallying cry with its feisty half-spoken, half-shrieked opening line: "Some people think that little girls should be seen and not heard - well I think, oh bondage, up yours."

SIMON ERL - interview.

The first time I met Simon Erl was outside the Crowbar in London before a 12 bar show. He with stood with a group of people that I also knew, I don't know how it started but we suddenly realised with both had a love of The Manson Family, he told me he had made some Manson prints & that he would send me some if I gave him my address. So A few weeks later they came, I never thought he would actually have sent them. So from that chance encounter I have stayed in contact with him for the last 3 years.

I think his art is so amazing I love everything about it, he really has his own style, So as well as just interviewing hardcore bands on here I thought I would think out the box & ask him for an interview, which he agreed & here we go.

1, THE BEGINING SEEMS A GOOD PLACE TO START, WHERE ARE YOU FROM ORIGINALLY?I was born in Germany, got carried around as a toddler all over the world and then spent my teens in New Zealand.

2, WHEN DID YOU DO YOUR FIRST TATTOO & HOW DID YOU GET INTO IT?I got an apprenticeship in New Zealand and a shop called Ataia Tattoo i think it was 2005. They had just opened and it was on the way from my house to my day job so I just went in on the off chance. They already had an apprentice but they fired him as they saw more potential in me, which is funny because my paintings and drawings were dreadfull at that point.

3, ARE YOU HAPPY WITH THE FIRST TATT YOU DID?
Hell no. It was a foetus in a whiskey bottle. I'd love to see how it looks now hahaha
4, YOU HAVE BEEN DOING TATTS IN A FEW COUNTRIES, DOES IT DIFFER FROM COUNTRY TO
COUNTRY, WHERE HAS BEEN SOME OF THE BEST PLACES & WHY?
I guess the tattoo I did are more affected by time than graphic location, like fashion, the subject matter of tattoos changes like the weather. The best place would be where I am now because before that I was pretty shit at tattooing.

5, WHAT TATTOO'S DO YOU HATE TO DO, OR DO YOU JUST REFUSE?
I still do whatever comes in, I'm far from being too good for a certain tattoo. I still do tribal, stars, baby momma's names etc. However it feels somewhat good to refuse tattooing some kids face or hands who doesnt have enough other tattoos to warrant it.

6, WHERE DO YOU WORK AT THE MOMENT?
At Jayne Doe in Essex. The nicest shop I've worked in and with great people, Sam Ricketts and Tiny Miss Becca.

7, HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN WORKING THERE?
Just a little over a year

8, YOU HAVE YOUR OWN STYLE, WHERE DO YOU GET YOUR INSPIRATION FROM?
Hmmmm its taken my quite some time to get a style i feel comfortable with....I hope I'm slowly getting there. Inspiration I've recently started taking from other things than tattooers. European folk lore, music, occultism, alchemy, old childrens books.
9, I KNOW YOU DO ARTWORK TOO, YOU DID HONOR AMONG THEVIES DESIGN, IS THERE ANY
OTHER BANDS YOU WORKED WITH?hahah notice those hands have one too many fingers? woops. I did a lot of artwork for some bad hardcore bands I dont care to remember. I did the artwork for the Length of Time/Santa Karla split 7" that recently came out. I loved LOT in my younger days so it was great to be asked to do that. I have a few projects coming up with Aurora Borealis records....that guy is putting out some of the best and most interesting music out.

10, WHAT BANDS ARE YOU LISTENING TO AT THE MOMENT & WHAT BANDS WOULD YOU SAY ARE
YOUR ALL TIME FAVS?

I wanted to distance myself as far as possible from jocks at my school. I always despised drinking culture and the general bullshit things that are drilled into us about being a "man".

Both haha I love tattooing but Im limited with it so I also like to paint.

It's the esoteric gents blog www.esotericgentlemensblog.com it's about old motorcycles, interesting viny, bad tattoos, rare books and satan! I've been lazy on it lately but I plan on writting more stuff on it soon.

17,YOUR HAVE A THING FOR MANSON, EXPLAIN THAT & WHAT TURNED YOU ON TO MANSON IN THE FIRST PLACE?
I never was (and still am not) into serial killers. Being a film nerd I started watching Polanski films and reading about him. I became aware of who Manson was through that (I had the common misconception about a hippy who took plenty of drugs and killed some famous people) he didn't interest me. I was a mid '90s vegan straight edge kid so I read a lot of militant newsletters and propaganda material (a pity kids don't make those any more) and kept stumbling upon Manson quotes and reference to ATWA. Through that I discovered a lot of things the media doesn't want you to know about the man which made a lot of sense to me about environmental issues, communal living outside the boundaries of common law etc. At the time I was living in the US and for the lack of a better word was living in a cult. The way we were living had more than a few parallels do death valley haha.
I've withdrawn a lot of Manson paintings and influence due to the rise of ignorant children jumping on it. People see his face on an integrity shirt and think he's cool or worse they read Helter Skelter and think they have some insight on the subject.

18,YOUR ART IS VERY DARK & ALOT INSPIRED BY THE DEVIL, WHAT FASINATES YOU ABOUT ALL THINGS SATANIC?In my art I guess European folk lore. My mum was a punk with I guess hippy outlooks on life. We never had a tv in the house but I had shit loads of books. Fairy tales, north myths, Greek mythology, history books you name it. I read a lot of books of old german folk tales. In many of these the stories revolve around the common man, farmer, miller or whoever coming in contact with a personification of the devil, striking some sort of deal with him and in the end trying to work out how to get out of having been tricked by him. I guess that was my first kind of introduction, if you will, to the devil with one cloven hoof, a man's body and clothes and horns. Aesthetically I love this portrayal of Satan, And the fact he comes and interacts with humans. You never see the Christian god coming to interact directly with his greatest creation, he uses his angels or divine powers to do his dirty work. That always seemed lazy to me. The devil is a bit more hands on I guess.
Im a satanist, I believe Satan is the God of artists so I guess you could say when I draw or paint it is a form of "worship". I don't like using the term "worship" so just I tip my hat to him and sing his praises, be it in my paintings, tattoos or bedtime prayers.

Most of us are from Rouen (Normandy), 1 hour near Paris... A beautiful town!

2, IS THERE A GOOD SCENE THERE, WHAT BANDS ARE FROM THERE?

Yes there is. It's a melting polt of generation and lifestyle! We've got great band like Primal Age, As we bleed, Back to square one, Alceste, a Rising head for Elijah, Retromotions... For most of them, they are friends of us.

We all meet because of music, we meet 10 years ago for some of us.

Hardcore! But we can't really define our music style. What's sure is that can limited as beatdown music...

We like hardcore bands like All out war, Kickback, Bulldoze, Nasty, 6fd, Morning again.... But also hiphop and rap music. But what influence us is most society and everydaylife.

This band was formed 2 years ago but we find our good line up only 1 year ago.

Singers are Kevin and Damien. They are in charge of lyrics, book shows and communication.

Our Cd was released by Emergence Records. It's the production of a veteran of hardcore in rouen! Most of is work is about punk, oldschool hardcore and post hardcore. He brings very important support to the local scene! Respect!

Yes and no... Even you can always find things to make better when it's the first..The most important it's people like it and help us doing shows!

10, WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS TO RELEASE A NEW CD?
　
This summer we're gonna record a full lenght album with Ludo from Nasty. Then will look for a label to deal it...

11, WHAT HAVE BEEN THE BEST SHOWS YOU HAVE PLAYED SO FAR?

I think it was in Spain, at Gijon with our friends from Officer Down. We meet great people there! Asturies Rules! But we also had great shows in Paris, Rouen, Rennes... But we are going to make good shows to June.

No, we'd rather concentrate on it. We also make rap music with friends from other hardcore band... We're thinking about release a Cd one day...

1, SO YOUR AN OLD BUT NEW BAND, CAN YOU EXPLAIN THE CONNECTION WITH 4 IN THA
CHAMBER .

Well, UF was started in March of 2009 a few weeks after 4ITC broke up. It was started by Dave and me (Frankie - both original 4ITC members). That is pretty much the only connection. Unstable Foundation is a new band with new music.

2, WHO'S IN THE LINE UP NOW, ANY ONE FROM THE ORIGINAL 4ITC?
Frankie – The original 4ITC guitar player. Unfortunately, Dave had to leave last year to pursue becoming a chef. We are still best friends to this day. He misses everyone and makes a mean meatloaf in the process

The non 4ITC members are:

Scott – Vocals (First Band, but tried out for American Idol)
Paul - Drums (ex Sworn Enemy)
Chris – Bass (ex Full Blown Chaos)

3, TAKING IT WAY BACK WHEN DID YOU GUYS START 4ITC?

Now I’m feeling old. We started 4ITC in Feb of 1995 and stayed a band until 2009. It was a fun run, but nothing lasts forever. We have been through 5 singers and 11 guitar players. It was time to kill it.

4, UNSTABLE FOUNDATION WAS THE NAME OF YOUR 1ST MCD, WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS
NAME FOR THE NEW BAND?

We were going to name the band something like “Bear vs. Toddler” or “ I Wrestled A Mexican Once” but we figured it was easier to go with “Unstable Foundation”. It required no thought, no energy and it was already there. So, once we started a new one with ex members; it just seemed to fit. And everyone was on board with it.

5, SO YOU HAVE YOUR FIRST CD OUT, ARE YOU PLEASED HOW IT TURNED OUT?
We are really happy with it. We got to work with a great engineer in Rockland County , NY by the name of Max Velez. He’s an awesome dude and an extremely talented guy. It’s been a little slow getting it out into the world, but things take time. Usually, this stuff is not an overnight success. Then again Scott was on American Idol, so that should boost our sales by 2 or 3 records

6, YOU HAVE SOME GREAT GUEST VOCALS ON IT, IS THAT JUST FRIENDS OF THE BAND?

Absolutely, we are all friends. Sal Enemy has been friends with us for a long time. Plus, our drummer Paul used to be in Sworn Enemy. So we asked him to come down and it just fit. The same thing happened with Martin from Billy Club Sandwich. We have all known each other forever. The other guest vocals are Bobby Brazen (ex 4ITC/Slam One Down) and Dante from the band Undivided. That are all really talented guys and we were ecstatic to be able to have their voices on our CD. It was a great time had by all.

7, 4ITC HAD SO MANY DIFFERENT SINGERS, YOU THINK YOU FINALLY FOUND A STEADY
LINE-UP?

Well even though Unstable Foundation is the name of our first 4ITC record, we are by no means going to drag it out like 4ITC. Scott is a great addition to the band and he is not going anywhere. (Unless Simon Cowell calls him) We have fortified a solid line up of people that are in it for the love of playing music. 4ITC was an ego trip and a lot of the newer members didn’t really understand how being in a band worked and had alternate motives. I guess our mistake was taking in new members too quickly and not really taking the time to see if they fit. It will not happen in Unstable Foundation. We are all much older, wiser and clear headed since it takes a lot more beer to get us drunk

8, WHAT EVER HAPPEND TO THE ORIGINAL 4ITC SINGER, DO YOU EVER HEAR FROM HIM?

He became a Unick and started a 2012 religious cult with other Unicks. Last I heard he was currently trying different recipes for cyanide fruit punch for the big event on December 21, 2012.
Oh you wanted the truth?
Actually, no one knows what happened to him he had a falling out with the band in the end, but I think the Unick/2012 story is a lot better because it’s just too funny

HOW DID YOU FIND THE SINGER YOU HAVE NOW?

We had open tryouts. We weren’t looking for a guy that has been around for a long time. We were looking more for someone that was a little younger, that was still hungry and would work well with the rest of the band. He contacted us when he saw our ad, came down and did a good job. We heard he tried out for American Idol and were like “wow!” .. lol The rest is history. Though we torture him like a kid brother, he is a good fit!

10, ARE ANY OF YOU GUYS IN ANY OTHER BANDS?

Not at the moment. All members are just in UF. Want to start a side band?
We all have full time jobs and lots of responsibilities that go with them. So, all our free time goes to UF.

11, HOW DOES THE SCENE DIFFER NOW FROM WHEN YOU GUYS FIRST CAME OUT?
In my honest opinion it’s dying. There are much less places to play these days and the turnouts aren’t like they used to be. We play the music we love, but we wish more people loved it more. Now when a band you don’t know goes on, most people go outside while they play. (Even in the winter) Also, everyone you know is in a band these days. I can go on for days about this, but I’m sure your readers are bored of what I have to say already, why torture them more?

12, YOU THINK ITS BETTER NOW OR BETTER BACK IN THE 90'S?
It was way better in the 90’s.. More people came down and supported bands. Everyone watched you and if you sucked, you knew it!

13, WHATS THE REVIEWS BEEN LIKE FOR THE NEW CD?
Everyone that hears it tells me they love it. (Unless they are lying to me in the same way my mother told me I was handsome). I would love to find more reviews and I would have no problem sending a cd to anyone that wants to review it. Positive or negative! Just hit me up frankie4itc@yahoo.com

14, YOUR CD CAME OUT ON ON THE ATTACK RECORDS HOW DID THAT COME ABOUT?
Sammy from On the Attack is old friends with Dave and I, liked the new band and then offered to put our CD out. We released it in June of 2009 and It’s called “Strength Through Determination”. Pick it up, you won’t be sorry!

15, WHATS UNSTABLE FOUNDATIONS PLANS FOR THE REST OF 2011?
Play as many shows as possible. Get the music out there to everyone and hopefully just have a lot of fun. I have been playing in bands since I am 14 (20 years, yeah I’m old) and I honestly don’t know what to do if I wasn’t playing. So, until my legs are falling off and I have to be carried off the stage I will keep playing. Same goes for Chris and Paul. We are still trying to figure out Scott’s story. Did you know he tried out for American Idol?

I was really impressed when I first heard Golden Bullet, so I wanted to find out more about the band so I wrote singer tonny for an interview, here's what he had to say.

1, WHO'S IN THE BAND & WHAT DO THEY PLAY?
Golden bullet is Jeffrey (bass) , Jan (drums) , Ivo (guitar) , Lowie (guitar) and I’m Tonny (vocals).

2, WHEN DID YOU FORM & HOW DID YOU ALL MEET?
The first rehearsals must haven been somewhere early 2005. It was Jan (drums), Tom(guitar) and I. We already knew each other because we live in the same village.

Ivo (guitar) joined us a bit later. Nobody of us who met Ivo earlier, we found Ivo through a friend of him. Tom left very soon when Ivo joined us because of lack of time.

We found Lowie (guitar) as Tom’s replacement. We found him through some friends who knew Lowie was looking for a new band. Lowie knew a bass player and brought Jeffrey into our band. It must have been already summer 2005 until we had a real and the current (!) line up.

Not everyone knew all the others from in the beginning. Our passion for music brought us together and we became really good friends. And it is fantastic that it went that way, otherwise the band should not be still around !

3, HOW DID YOU GUYS DECIDE TO PLAY THE STYLE YOU DO THE H8000 STYLE?

Everybody in the band has his own vision on music and wanted to play something else. We decided just to start with writing songs, and that it was (and it still is) important that everyone within the band has his influence in our songs. We never wanted to play a certain style. We never putted the h8000 stamp on our style, it was something we got when we started to play shows. And we are more than happy with it, the older h8000 bands were and still are something special.

4, FOR KIDS WHO DON'T KNOW WHAT H8000 IS, COULD YOU EXPLAIN.

H8000 stands for the hardcore scene in “west-flanders”, they took the number 8000 because the zip code of every village/city in “west-flanders” begins with an 8 followed through three other numbers. Later they putted the H (that stands for hate) before it because of all the negative shit that entered the scene. The so called h8000 sound is an sound that was very typical for bands out of our area. Think bands in the vein of edge metal bands like Liar and Congress - two bands that everybody knows / heard off. For so far the lesson history like they told me, because we talking about the early 90’s now. I did my first show in 1998. I was 16 years old then, so I can only tell you my experiences from ‘98 until now.

For me is h8000 (and hardcore in general) more than a music style or an area in Belgium. It is a feeling and feelings are hard to describe. When I entered the scene, I saw a world who was new for me. Kids who were busy with organizing benefit shows, gave each other flyers to inform you about cases where they really cared about. Kids helping each other to get a ride to shows… There was a certain unity and respect. However there was also a lot of bullshit and maybe I just make my memories more beautifull than they are without realizing it because I was to young or whatever.
I know that humans have that bad habit to look too much back (or forward) instead of enjoying the here and now... But I want to be honest, I miss that positive atmosphere a bit, it just feels different now. And it is to easy to point to other and younger kids. I guess the older kids were not able to keep things / values alive? The only thing we can do is trying to give an example and looking in the mirror instead of pointing and nagging. After all, this counterculture and what it means to somebody is still something personal.

5, YOUR CD CAME OUT ON CFC RECORDS, HOW DID THAT COME ABOUT, DID THEY CONTACT
YOU TO SIGN TO THEM?

Diana a friend of us from holland, gave the people from cfc a promo. She said to us that they liked it, so I contacted cfc. I started to chat with Rick Verbeeck from cfc and Rick had a bit the same vision on hardcore, the scene, life, … like we had. We signed very quickly their label. Maybe a bit strange that we’re on a label from Holland , but we are very happy with it. Rick is a fantastic dude who does a lot for his bands.

6, ARE YOU HAPPY HOW THE CD TURNED OUT?
Yes we are. It is not perfect, and like the most thing in this world, there are things that can be improved. But we’re happy with the result. I also want to thank Andy Vuylsteke for doing a fantastic art job (http://xjuggernautx.deviantart.com/gallery/) ! We got exactly what we wanted ! And he had to work really fast. Jan our drummer, recorded everything, spent days and days to mix the whole shit and in the end everything was mastered at the famous CCR studio. Chris did the mastering two times!! The first time he was only 99 percent satisfied, so he did it again. He is a great dude to work with and very experienced in his studio work.

7,HAVE YOU RELEASED ANYTHING ELSE BEFORE YOU DID YOUR CD?

We did a split demo with our friends from saviour in 2008. In 2009 we released a promo. And in September 2010 we released this full length album.

8, WHATS THE SCENE LIKE IN BEL RIGHT NOW, ARE THERE ANY NEW BANDS WE SHOULD LOOK
OUT FOR?

There is a lot of activity. Lots of (new) bands and gigs. Some kids started to doing paper zines again. Something that wasn’t that common anymore. Let’s hope that this is the beginning of a new wind through our scene. Hardcore must be more than music !

About the bands where you should look out for. Check headshot with their new second vocalist Aarjen. I heard a very promising demo tape from a new band “last stand” . Cold fusion also a new band that will hit the Belgian stages very soon. Watch out for them! Last weekend we played together with fields of troy (with dompi from spirit of youth / blood redemption) and I’ve been blown away !!! I am sure that I forgot a lot of bands, but I can go on and on !

9, WHAT INFLUENCES YOU TO WRITE YOUR MUSIC & LYRICS?

My personal life, my vision upon the world around me and the injustice within it, sometimes even about my vision upon the hardcore scene. About my feelings, about guilt, betrayal, burdens, about those things that are so hard to express …
I’ve got a little story about this that I want to tell! Willem from flanders fury (http://flandersfury.blogspot.com/) did an in depth review about our record and the lyrics. He used a lot the word “reflection” in his review (about the lyrics), and I realized that this is something very important in my life / lyrics. 10, WHAT BANDS HAVE BEEN A BIG INFLUENCE ON GOLDEN BULLET?

A lot of bands, but it is always so difficult to write names down. We are 5 different people all five influenced by different bands. Let me say, length of time, merauder, slayer, all out war, …

11, WHERE DID THE NAME GOLDEN BULLET COME FROM?

I tried to define the meaning of “golden bullet” in the song gold.betray.bullets..
It is about persons who reach you the hand and offer you solutions; the “so called-gold” . What if those same persons in the end the betray you? You get the gold… a golden bullet in your back.

12, I THINK ITS VERY COOL YOUR KEEPING THE H8000 SOUND ALIVE, DO YOU THINK YOUR
GONNA INFLUENCE MORE BANDS IN YOUR AREA TO DO THIS?

I really hope we do. It should be really cool that ten years from here we look back and can say that we were a band who influenced other bands to bring back the h8000 sound .

To be honest it is crazy that we already got a lot of very good reactions from outside Belgium. Kids who are saying how cool it is that there are still bands with an h8000 sound. Kids who liked the dark concept around the full album.

While within our own country some kids are always talking about the old h8000 bands and they forget about nowadays bands who bring (back) that kind of music. A bit pity, if you ask me… I hope the ban is broken with the full album. I see more and more younger kids at our shows, maybe they needed some time to get familiar with our sound? Or maybe they just didn’t know us yet. Lately we play more and more shows, we get more chances to spread our music. For the moment there is even next to the Belgians show a show in france and one in Holland confirmed.

13, WHAT ARE GOLDEN BULLETS PLANS FOR THE REST OF 2011?

Playing a lot shows ! We really enjoy the live vibe! And we already started writing new material. If it should be possible… doing a tour! A friend of the band is looking for that, but nothing is confirmed. So if there are people who are interested don’t hestitate to mail us !!! (Everyone in the band kept next dates free thursday 21 july, friday 22 july, saturday 23 july and sunday 24 juli.)

14, DO ANY OF YOU GUYS PLAY IN OTHER BANDS?

Nobody does, I think we are all to busy with different things outside the band. And we all want to focus on golden bullet. It is a fantastic thing if you can do rehearsals and playing shows and everything in and around the whole band with guys who are really good friends and are giving the best of them ! This is a fantastic reward for al the time and energy we put into it.

1, CAN YOU GIVE A BAND HISTORY, WHEN YOU FORMED, WHO'S IN THE BAND, WHERE YOUR
FROM ETC.

In detail:

It all started in 2006. Me (Wulf) and Jeroen (ex-member now) shared the idea of starting a band that was different from what our area was known for at the moment. The Ypres area was mainly beatdown/deathcore orientated. We quickly found Smidtn to fill in on drums.
After a while and quite some drinks I asked Carlos to join us on bass. He came for a try-out and told us he would be more interested in a spot on guitar but he knew someone for bass. That’s where Stimp came in and both were enthousiastic to start up this project.

To throw in a bit more variation we asked Buske to come and try as a second vocalist. Since we both have totally different voices this mixes up well.

We played our first show in 2007 and have been playing lots of shows since then without any real break to write or record. We like to keep ourselves busy.

At the moment Jeroen and Stimp are no longer with us due to personal reasons. Which means we are looking for a new bassplayer and a second guitarplayer. We have Nicho from Pushed Too Far currently helping us out on bass for the planned shows.
And we’re still good friends with Jeroen and Stimp.

2, YOU REMIND ME OF A HARDER SOUNDING WISDOM IN CHAINS, WHO ELSE WOULD YOU SAY
IS A BIG INFLUENCE ON YOU?

Thanks for the compliment as we all like Wisdom In Chains a lot.
We have quite some influences and that’s for a big part our strength in my opinion.
Everyone has their main influence. For me that’s Oi! and streetpunk. Carlos mainly streetpunk, rock ‘n roll
Smidtn was mainly into deathmetal and such at the start. Buske is more into NYHC. Stimp is a ska/reggae man.
But in the end we all love hard music.

To name a few bands that influence us as everyone likes such a list. We have Blood For Blood, Sheer Terror, No Redeeming Social Value, Slumlords, Madball, Death Threat, Breakdown on the hardcore front. But bands like Cock Sparrer, Cockney Rejects, Argy Bargy, The Business, 4Skins, Bulldog Courage,... influence us aswell.

It's up to the listeners how they want to describe us. To us it's just hardcore.

　
3, ONE STEP BEYOND IS REALLY GOOD DRINKING/PARTY MUSIC IS THAT WHAT YOU WANTED
WHEN YOU STARTED OUT?

Not really. Things just turned into that direction.
When I started writing our first lyrics I automaticly started writing about things from my everyday life.
I could write about how I am the toughest kid in the neighbourhoud but I'm not so why should I do that and take away the honesty that hardcore/punk music has to offer?

Except Smidtn who's still a student we all have an honest hardworking fulltime job. In the weekend we like to sort of escape from the everyday job, sleep, bills, etc.. by having a good time and enjoy ourselves. And we want to crowd to do the same. What's the point in going to a show after a hard workweek and just stand there? Have fun, make it a good weekend before you get back to work on monday. Doesn't matter if you're drinking or not. We drink but if you're straight edge you're just as welcome, change the booze in our lyrics to coke, ice tea or whatever you like and the meaning would still be the same.

So basicly our lyrics are about our everyday lives with a wink here and there.
But if you for example check the lyrics from a song like CCTV you'll also see that we take on more serious and social topics.

　
4, YOUR ABOUT TO RELEASE YOUR FIRST CD, YOU PUTTING IT OUT YOURSELVES RIGHT? CAN
YOU TALK ABOUT THAT.

There's still a bit of a grey zone there. This was the idea from the start but we've been approached recently by a label that looks honest so there's a chance we might put it out with them.

5, WHY DID YOU CHOOSE TO DO IT YOURSELVES & NOT ON A LABLE?

As a small band you often have to bend over and take it up the ass only to get a bad deal. You pay for everything and they get the benefits. So it looks better to do things on your own.
But as said we've been approached by a label recently and they look honest to us. They've already done quite some releases and really supported the bands on their roster by doing lots of promo, helping them on shows, merch,...
Since promo takes a lot of time and work it could come in handy to have someone take care of that for us. Also they're not locally based which means a new audience may get to know us.

6, SCOTT MOVE IS DOING THE ARTWORK RIGHT?, WHATS GOING TO BE ON THE COVER?
　
Scott has indeed taken care of the artwork. If you're familiar with his artwork then you know a bit what to expect, we allowed him to be creative in his style with our idea in the back of his head.

In general it's an image of a city/world that's a bit in crumbles or just a bad neighbourhood if you want. Where society is failing and rats have free roaming, empty bottles are the sign or holy grail for people trying to escape this.

7, DO YOU HAVE A RELEASE DATE FOR IT YET?

Not yet. We're aiming for a march release (Break Bones Fest) but don't want to rush things just to release it.
We want things to be good so we can look back and say "yes we're proud of it". Offcourse we don't want it to take too long either.

8, ONE STEP BEYOND IS FROM THE MADNESS SONG, WHY DID YOU DECIDE ON THAT NAME?

We had to come up with something right?
During one of our early rehearsals we we're looking for a name. We came up with all different kinds of stuff and we're voting in rounds untill we would have one left everyone liked.

One Step Beyond was not on the list. But as it got a bit boring we decided to open the garage we we're rehearsing in at that time and play some music from the car. First thing we heard was the intro to that Madness song and we all though One Step Beyond had a good ring to it. The list got thrown away and since then we're One Step Beyond.

9, HOW IS THE SCENE WHERE YOUR FROM RIGHT NOW, ANY NEW BANDS WE SHOULD BE
LOOKING OUT FOR?

The Ypres area itself is quite dead. Lots of people from our area wouldn't like to hear that though. Lots of show at the Vortn Vis but except the barkeeper and some locals who go just because there is a show and to have a drink you won't see anyone else from Ypres itself.

If we get outside Ypres (which is a small area anyway) there's a really living scene. Lots of show get put on, kids go to the shows, many kids start bands,...
Belgium in general has a good hardcore scene with many different subgenres. Offcourse each subgenres has it's own crowd but guess that's the case for any country.

Bands to keep an eye on are Pushed Too Far, Enough Said, Headshot, Golden Bullet, Saviour, Angelskin, One More Sword, Crossed The Line, Fatal Recoil, The Boss,... and still lots of band missing. Honestly I don't like every band there is but that's the beauty of it, there are many different styles and every band seems to be doing what they like and that's something I can only respect.

10, WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS FOR THE REST OF 2011?

First bring out the MCD. Find a new bassplayer and maybe a second guitarplayer. Continue to play shows and build up a name/reputation so people can't ignore us.

Interview with Colin Young singer with Twitching Tongues.

1, WHERE ARE YOU GUYS FROM, WHO'S IN THE BAND, HOW DID YOU FORM & WHEN?
My brother and I are from Los Angeles, and Keith and Mike live in Orange County.
In late 2009 Taylor and I wrote the demo, in February of 2010 we finished it, then released it in March. Keith filled in for Ruckus at the time, and we all loved him, so we asked him to play bass. We had a hard time finding a drummer for a bit, and then we found out that Mike already knew all the songs, so we practiced with him and knew he fit right in.
Around here, I've seen tons of hardcore/punk bands come together just because certain people played instruments, not even really knowing one another. They're bandmates before friends and I never liked that. It's definitely the opposite with Twitching Tongues, it's my brother and now some of my best friends. Couldn't ask for a cooler lineup of people.

2, WHERE DID THE NAME COME FROM?
My favorite Only Living Witness song, "Twitching Tongues". I implore everybody to check it out!

3, HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR SOUND & WHO WOULD YOU SAY ARE YOUR INFLUENCES?
Rock/Metal influenced hardcore, although some might argue we aren't a hardcore band at all because of the clean vocals.
The first demo we did was 5 songs, drawing from Type O Negative, Only Living Witness, Life of Agony, Pantera, even some R&B aspects for silly vocal pointers. 3 of them being our demo, one of them will be on the 7", and the other the first song on our LP. Funny that the first song we wrote won't end up being heard until our LP.

4, YOU PLAY DRUMS IN RUCKUS, DO ANY OTHER THE OTHER GUYS IN T.T PLAY IN OTHER
BANDS?
Taylor, Keith and I all play in Ruckus, Keith and sometimes Mike play in Creatures, I play drums in Alpha & Omega, and Taylor plays drums in Nails.

5, WHAT HAVE YOU RELEASED SO FAR?
Just the 3 song demo! The title track of our upcoming 7" can be heard on our myspace page though!

6, I HEARD YOU PLANNING ON A 7INCH, TELL ME ABOUT THAT.
We should have them by the time we hit Europe in March! Our friend Nick Heitman at Photobooth records is putting it out.
3 songs, 2 new, and a cover of Pentagram's "Forever My Queen", we also have an LP completely written and it's about 90% done recording-wise. Can't wait to have them both out.

7, YOU'RE PLAYING SOME SHOWS IN EUROPE SOON, ARE YOU LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT, YOU
EVER BEEN TO EUROPE BEFORE?
Can't wait! I just did Europe with Alpha & Omega, Trapped Under Ice and Bane, and it was a total blast, although for some reason my body clock and Europe did not mix well, I was tired 24 hours a day. It was bullshit! Very much looking forward to going back with Twitching Tongues and Ruckus though, even though the tour is shorter than my previous one.

8, HOW DO YOU THINK KIDS WILL REACT TO YOU IN EUROPE AT SHOWS?
I really don't have a clue yet, I have a feeling we won't be getting crazy reactions, but hopefully they'll watch and enjoy what they hear so the next we come can be even cooler!

9, DO YOU PLAY MORE HARDCORE SHOWS OR METAL SHOWS, WHAT REACTION DO YOU GET FROM
WHEN YOU GUYS PLAY?
We've only played hardcore shows to date. I have a feeling that's the way it'll be for quite a while too, and I have absolutely no problem with that. The kids that have heard us before will sing along and occasionally punch somebody, and the kids who haven't heard us will either love it or hate it, but I always love it when people talk to me after the set and tell me it was their first time hearing us and that they enjoyed it. Coolest feeling in the world.

10, WHAT KINDA THINGS DO YOU WRITE SONGS ABOUT?
Call it corny, but I've written A LOT about love/girls and that bullshit. Never had the best experiences with any of that. My fault for the most part... I've written about family members, weird metaphoric shit about dreaming, and religion. Hopefully everybody can decipher which is which when the 7" and LP come out :)

11, WHATS BETTER DRUMMING OR SINGING??
Singing, hands down. Something about playing drums on tour just doesn't feel right to me. Singing is also just much more fun in my opinion, jumping around and pointing my finger like an asshole just feels so right...

King Diamond Undergoes Open Heart Triple Bypass Surgery

Danish heavy metal legend King Diamond recently underwent an open heart triple bypass surgery, which he is reportedly recovering from well. A message from his wife reads as follows:

"Let me catch you all up on the past couple of weeks' happenings, because it affects many things. On Monday, November 29th, King had to be transported to the nearby hospital by ambulance. After several different tests were done and the EKG machine showing abnormalities, the doctors recommended that he get a cardiac catheterization.

"Cardiac catheterization is a procedure where the doctors lead a very thin tube up from the leg and into the heart, where it injects dye into the bloodstream. Then a camera at the end of the tube takes many pictures of the heart's arteries, looking for blockages. After this was done, they determined that King had several heart attacks, and three of his heart's arteries were the cause: one was completely blocked, the second was 90% blocked, and the third was 65% blocked.

"The only solution to this was an open heart triple bypass surgery.

"If you are interested in the details of how this surgery is performed, please look it up online. I will only touch on the basics. The sternum (breastbone) is cut in half and pulled apart, to expose the heart. Veins are harvested from other places of the body, in King's case it was his left leg and chest wall. The person is then hooked up to a machine that practically does the job of the heart, circulating and oxygenating the blood.

"The heart is then stopped, and the lungs collapse (the lungs stop working since the blood is being oxygenated by the machine). The surgeon then sews the harvested veins in place, bypassing the found blockages. Once the surgery is done, the surgeon moves the ribs and breastbone back into place and wires it together. The chest is closed as well. They use an electric pulse to start the heart and a breathing machine is lead into the lungs to restart breathing.

"King's surgery took approximately seven hours.

"Everything went well, and King was taken to ICU for recovery. He was walking and eating solid food already 2 days after the operation, and he was the first one in the history of the hospital who walked on his own power from the ICU to normal care. 10 days after the ambulance took him to the emergency room, he is at home and is recovering well. It will be a few months before he feels completely normal and is without pain.

"He would like to mention here that he's eternally grateful for the wonderful staff at Centennial Medical Center who took care of him. Dr. Kourlis, Dr. Kamili, Dr. Alang, Nurse Christie and Nurse Thomas among many others made sure that he got the best care and attention he could ever have hoped for.

"They were always very nice to me too, letting me stay overnight in the ICU after visiting hours were over.

"In light of this, he will be taking a break from music and the music business altogether until further notice.

"He very much wants to write new music, finish the DVDs, and go on tour, but for now, all those things are in the distant future and he's not thinking about them.

"Please understand that the King Diamond band is not stopping, disbanding or anything of the sort. King's health is first priority, and when everything is going good with him, the music will resume.

As you maybe or may not know UNSTABLE FOUNDATION are the band orginally called 4 in tha chamber from Bronx NYC, There first cd they did was actually called UNSTABLE FOUNDATION, which I still own & still play from time to time & still love.After a few line up changes & many different singers, UNSTABLE FOUNDATION was born in march of 2009. This is a brand new band feat members of 4 in tha chamber, its not a band that just changed there name. Some impressive guest vocals on the track Familia feat Sal SWORN ENEMY Martin from BILLY CLUB SANDWICH, Dante UNDIVIDED & former 4 IN THE CHAMBER man Bobby.
9 tracks on there debut cd, well worth the money. I hope they have better luck with there line-ups than 4itc did because I hope to hear more from this band, plus i really like the singers voice.This is a much more heavy sounding HC than there previous band. I really enjoyed. this cd there is nothing worse than having to review a cd that your not really into, so when a good one comes along it makes it all worth while.
I hope they make it to europe to play some shows, so I get to check em out live.

The first time I heard CLEAR CONVICTION was via there myspace page, (see myspace is still good for bands) & couldn't wait to recive the CD in the mail.
First up this band is from Puerto Rico & I think maybe one of the first Hardcore bands I heard from there, & this is just not a hardcore band, this is a hardcore band with a message & that message is GOD. To be honest I listen to everything i'm not christian or religous but one of my favorite metal bands is Stryper so if songs about GOD are good enough for them, then its good enough for me.
When you first put the cd on the first track is a reading of the entire chapter of 2 Thessalonians, which I thought was kinda cool, nice chilled out mellow with almost hip hop drums in the background. Then wait for it the title tracks comes in hard as nails. This band play heavy hardcore with plenty of metal undertones , Blast beats & breakdowns with even a few guitar solo's. this is not the first cd by these guys & I want to now hear there older stuff. I think they have been around for over 10 years I remember reading somewhere. This is a very good CD from begining to end so its definatley worth getting.

Smash Your Enemies is a hardcore band from Detroit, Michigan. With songs about real life situations and experiences. Fast, heavy,with plenty of nice beatdown parts to get ya dancing. I really like this band, & the cd is one of those kinda ones you can play over & over without getting bored. if you like Tuff guy Hardcore you should check out this band. you won't be disapointed.. 10 songs on this first full length thats out on On the Attack Records. 1, Bonjour So who’s in hell burns away & what do they play?

Hi!So, we’re currently five in HBA…

Thomas: Throat, Simon: Bass, Pierre and Benoist: Guitar And I (Morgan): Drums

2, I know you guys are from france, where abouts in france?

We all live in Caen, Normandy!

3, How did you guys all meet?

The classical stuff! Simon and I are friends since a long time! Maybe 13 years! We were at school together. Thomas was the singer of “my” first hardcore band Bazooka! Simon met Thomas at the same period by moving at our shows! At last, we met Pierre and Benoist thanks to common friends!

4, How long has the band been going?

We’ve started practicing on summer 2004 but Hellburnsaway was really born at the end of the year 2004 around Thomas, Simon, Romain, Cédric and I (Morgan)!

Romain and Cédric left the band on September 2007 and December 2009 for several personnal reasons! Benoist joined us in 2009, during the summer, just before our Euro Tour and Pierre arrived this year, in January, to replace Cédric!

The current line up is well good and we’re really confident about the future of the band!

5, Are any of you guys in other bands? Or been in other bands?

So, Thomas and I were playing in Bazooka (2002 – 2005), which was influenced by bands such as Shockwave, Disciple A Death For Everything…, still as singer and drummer!

6, how is the Hardcore scene in France right now, is there a lot of new bands coming out?

I think that the french hardcore scene feels quite good!

There’re lots of great bands in different kind of styles, such as Nine Eleven, Black Page, Providence, Deflectime, Black Spirals, Aussitôt Mort, Lazare, Kill For Peace, Alea Jacta Est, Golden District (RIP), No Guts No Glory, Call To Victory, Fierce and many many others! I can’t name ‘em all!

We also have a few great promoters who always try to organize gigs and to keep the scene alive…

Here are some of them: United Stages, This Is Your Scene, Caen Hardcore United, Free Edge Conspiracy, The Grass Was Never Green, Let’s Do It Kidz… and a few guys who book without a “crew name”…

But that’s not really easy to organize shows here! The venues are quite rare and, even if there are still hardcore kids/fans all around the country, some persons prefer worry about shit like dress codes than music and moving to the shows… But I don’t think it’s only in France…

7, What bands would you say influence your music?

We’re all fans of hardcore/punk/metal music in HBA so our influences are quite large… I can name, with no particularly order: Madball, Metallica, Terror, Guns Up!, Down To Nothing, Cruel Hand, S.O.D., Black Flag, Cro Mags, No Turning Back, Buried Alive and so, so much more!

8, if someone never heard your band who would you say you sound like?

I think that Hellburnsaway is currently a mix between the old Terror stuffs and Guns Up!… But it’s not really easy to compare ourselves to other bands. We always try to make our sound more and more personnal and I think it works song after song! Hope so!

9, You guys just did your first cd are you happy with how it turned out?

For sure we are… It’s always a good feeling when you have the final stuff in your hands!

The result is better than what we were expecting even if we know that there’re a few things which could be really increased in the next one!

10, the artwork really stands out, how did you get Mike Bukowski involed in that?

Thank you! I think it does!

We were thinking about the layout of the album and searching for someone who could draw our ideas! Mike B. was the guy we wanted for this job! His work is really personal and looks like no other! We simply mailed him to explain what we were looking for and he was immediately motived!

11, whats your plans for the rest of the year?

As we really like to move around, to share the stage with bands and meet people, we’re always looking for more and more gigs (in France and abroad)!

We’re also working on new songs for the next album and we’re already satisfied with how it sounds!

I think the recording session will be in March/April 2011…

At last, we’re thinking about a new tour… maybe for the release of this next CD…

Here's another one of those new bands out that I love, & it seems there must be a french hardcore explison because there's so many bands comming outta france right now.
Lazare hail from Rouen (Normandy) & are a 6 piece with 2 singers, i'm not that much of a big fan of bands with 2 singers, unless they really pull it off & this band is one of those.. The first line on the cd is "PUT YOUR MOTHERFUCKING DRINKS UP" & straight away i'm hooked. I love HC bands with a Hip Hop inflence & I think my mate craw said it best when he said he only likes hardcore bands that look like there gonna rap haha. Only 4 songs on this MCD I think its there first release so i'm sure there gonna hear much more from this band to come.
if you like you HC in your face with plenty of attitude & dance part, but almost a party feel to it then this is a band you need to check out, you should check them out anyway I fucking love this band.

GOLDEN BULLET - downfall of humanity review.

I'm sure this is what everyone will say when they hear this band but its true, listening to this cd it feels like I have gone in a time warp back to Bel mid to late 90's, This Band comes right out the H8000 era, but with a modern twist to it & a fresh sound, it has more MOSH style parts. If you are a fan of those bands from back then Congress and Length Of Time etc your gonna love this too..as soon as I heard it I really liked it, on the first play. its like H8000 never went away. GOLDEN BULLET have been around since 2005 so its taken me 5 years to here this band, now I wanna hear there older stuff. eleven songs on this first album out now CrossFire records. I really hope I get to see this band live in the not so distant future.

PETTYBONE interview

1, PETTYBONE is a pretty new band right?, Who started the band, who's in, who plays what, how did you meet blah blah blah?
Yep we are pretty new... We have Ivona on Guitar, Amy on Vox, Zel on Drums and myself on Bass. Ivona scouted us all out from our other / old bands, She had been sitting on this idea for a while... She had written a song and had a bunch of ideas she got my number off of a mutual friend told me about her ideas sent me a song and asked if I would be down to jamm... And thats when I first had meet them all! I had known of them all from there other bands before - in fact I had played with Amy's other band Hello Bastards a few times.... So we met and it all seemed to click into place and here we are now.

2, Was it easy to find 4 girls that can play & are into the same music as you??
Ivona had that hard task! I think its harder to find people who gel well in a band... Ivona got it right, we all have great dynamics together... which I think has created some great moments in our music.

3, Where are you guys based?
We are based in London, Although we are pretty multicultural Ivona is from Czech , Amy from Germany and Zel from the exotic Cornwall. Where as I'm from the big smoke itself.

4, What does the name PETTYBONE mean??
We are actually named after the artist Raymond Pettibon with a femine twist... Raymond Pettibon was the artist who created the Black Flag four bars logo. One of most - if not thee most iconic artist in punk rock. Although a few people have asked if we are Undertow / Edge Of Reason tribute band after John Pettibone. However this is not true.

5, If PETTYBONE was a film what film would it be & why??
Funny enough our "fifth member" Tiff Belway describes our music as a Quentin Tarantino film... So I'll go with that... Unsure why she said it was because our music would fit as a perfect soundtrack for most of his films.

6,THE RUNNAWAYS or VIXEN??
For me the Runnaways... I'm a big Joan Jett fan in everything she has done she is one of my role models and inspirations and ditto with Lita Ford... I think I can say that for the rest of girls as well. Although I do own the Vixen record 'Vixen' and yes I love it.

7,You just recorded, how many songs & what are your plans for these recordings?
We have recorded 10 songs... Well we have a few tricks up our sleeves which we can't give away too much yet ;) But there will be a 2 track demo first then the rest shall follow... I think it will be the proudest moment of my life when this record drops... We have come so far and put so much raw emotion in this band and I think it will come across in the recording.

9, For people who haven't heard you how would you describe your sound?
The sound of the revolt for all those that were told they're useless. That sounded pretty cheesy right? haha we are still unsure we hear different things depending on what the person is into... There is a big mixture. I think we just sound like Pettybone ;)

10, What influences do you guys have, that makes up the PETTYBONE sound?
Alot. We are all quite diverse with our music tastes but we have alot of the same as well. I would say early sub pop stuff, 80's & 90's hardcore, grunge, sludgy, stoner. It's all in there. Also the Riot Grrl scene was a big influence... I would say bands that have influenced us the most are Bikini Kill, Born Againist, Harum Scarum, Sleater Kinney, Nirvana, Black Flag, Tragedy, Embrace, Fugazi, Black Sabbath... So many really... But we are really influenced on what is going on around us in world and our lives.We have a manifesto which you can check out on our blogspot it will explain a little more on what we stand for and our influences.

11, Whats the average age of the band?? you seem kinda young, but you know alot about all the good old school stuff.
Never ask a lady there age ;) I'm the baby of the band at 22 but the average age of the band if my mathematics are correct is 26ish rounded up and down! We have all had allot of life experience despite our ages.

12, You have already played a few shows, how did they go?
Amazing.... Everyone we have played with has been great, the response has been great. Non of us can be happier. Allot of people don't know what to expect when they see us I think /hope most people have been pleasantly surprised... We play pretty hard live which I don't think many people are expecting.

13, Are any of you guys in other bands?? or been in other bands??
Yes Amy is also in Hello Bastards and Zel is in Invasion whom are both amazing. Check them out. Ivona was the guitarist in the now dissolved band Honor Among Thieves and I used to play in Hang The Bastard. So we all have quite allot of band experience.

14, What shows do you have coming up where people can check you out?
We are playing The Big Takeover at the end of this month, With Ac4 in October as well as a few others. You can see our full listings on our sites

15, What are PETTYBONES plans for the next year??
Playing as many shows as possible... We are currently sorting out a Eastern Europe and Israeli tour for January details will follow shortly. Then we will be doing America at some point next year... But Ivona and I have already started writing new songs for another record... In fact I wrote something for another record when I was at the studio recording last the weekend just gone. Haha quick I know but we are all pretty creative and we want to keep that up.

At last the new NASTY cd is here. its been 2 years since there last cd, & there 3rd album.. (2nd for goodlife).
12 new songs that don't disapoint from this 4 piece band, they have kept there sound to the style played on the previous cd's. which I think is a good thing, they have definatley got there sound down to a T, Its a case of if it ain't broken, Don't fix it.
For those who don't know NASTY Play beatdown.. real slow beatdown.. but they speed it up too so it dosn't get boring.
Got some really nice gang vocals going on here, the opening track FIRE ON THE PEOPLE is a short yet sweet perfect example of this, I can't wait to hear it live & see everyone go nuts.
first cd with new member chris but this dosn't alter the sound one bit.
My fav lyric of the cd has to be from SECOND LIFE "You can fuck & fuck without cummin to fast" mathi writes the best lyrics & always has to mention cum in there somewhere.

THIRD MAN DOWN hail from Helsinki thats in finland incase you didn't know, This is another one of those great finnish band, I love the sound they have so much.. must be something in the water that gives them there own style & sound.
After having the demo a few years I was really looking forward to hearing the first CD from this band. TMD feature Asko who also plays guitar in RATFACE so you know its gonna be a winner that guy does no wrong. The style is fast paced old school, but with plently of head nodding groove breakdown parts.

Its been out a few years now so here's hoping they will record a new cd soon.

PACTO DE SANGRE - sangre joven CD review.

A band from Spain that are strongly influenced by american and european beatdown hardcore. This band formed in 2007, but since then changed there name to PACTO DE SANGRE & there style. I really like this CD.. its a cd you can listen to the whole album & not get bored or sound cheesy like some bands that play this kinda style. All lyrics are sang in Spanish, but most bands you can't understand what they sing anyway so it dosn't matter haha.

Really like the cover artwork for this cd, straight away when I saw it I was looking forward to hearing there sound.

CUNTHUNT 777 - uberdosis review.

First up this cd is all in german so I have no idea what they are talking about, or even what the songs are called.. But I actually like it, it seems from alot of people this band isn't liked that much by some kids, but i'm sure CUNTHUNT 777 don't care what people think about them.
Its beatdown hardcore & lots of nice beatdown parts that remind me a bit musically of NASTY. 6 songs on this CD , but still over 20 mins of music.
Actually I lied the last song title is in english CLEANING THE CUNTZ. good work.

Ever since I first heard this band I have been in love with them & are up there in one of my fav HC bands list for the last 3/4 years.
This band come from Finland just like the moomins, This is Fun PARTY hardcore thats gonna make you smile when you hear it. it makes a nice change from all the tugg guy bands.. They have fastparts, 2 steps, breakdowns & mosh parts, what more could you need. The title ratassed is from an english saying meaning completely drunk for those who don't know. 10 songs on this cd & then theres an extra 2 songs listed as AFTERPARTY AREA.. 12 songs in all.. Highlights for me have to be RATASSED, CRAZYTOWN COOLIO, MORE BOOZE MORE SEX, KING KING of BLING BLING & not forgetting IN SATAN WE TRUST. Finland have an amazing scene with so many good bands.. Full house records do a great job getting these bands out there for people to hear.
You need this in your collection.. its the feel good album of 2010.

BULLDOZE - the final beatdown + DVD review.

This band needs no intro, BULLDOZE to beatdown is what Motorhead is to heavy metal.
These guys started it all, now this is a repress of the cd that came out 14/15 years ago, so its nothing new.. but this one is a bit special.. instead of the 4 live songs like the original, this verson has the whole set over 70 mins of music.
Also comes with a bonus disc DVD with 2 Bulldoze entire sets.. one from the live songs at the end (1995 wetlands).. after hearing the 4 live songs for so many years, it was finally nice to see what the guy looked like who does the intro for them. & it has a show from 2005 @ CBGB too.

At last all the new kids into bulldoze can get there hands on this masterpiece, or even worth getting for the dvd.

Leslie Van Houten parole hearing 2010.

Leslie Van Houten, the one-time Charles Manson follower long seen as the most likely of his ex-acolytes to win freedom someday, faces her 19th parole hearing on Tuesday 6th july with a new lawyer and new case law which may give her the best chance yet for release.

Even if there is a finding of suitability for parole at the hearing, freedom would not be immediate. The entire state parole board would review the decision within 120 days and it would then be submitted to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger for a final ruling.

Van Houten, 60, remains incarcerated at the California Institution for Women at Frontera, the same prison where another Manson follower, Patricia Krenwinkle, is imprisoned. Susan Atkins, the third woman convicted of murder in the crimes directed by cult leader Manson, died in prison last year after parole officials denied her dying request for freedom.

Van Houten last appeared before a parole board in 2007. Her chances for parole are enhanced by the fact that she has been discipline free since her incarceration in the early 1970s, has positive psychological reports and has been active in self-help groups at the prison including "Golden Girls," a group for elderly women inmates.

She has a new lawyer, Brandie Devall, who told The Associated Press she will refer to rulings by the California Supreme Court in 2008 and 2009 affecting standards for parole.

Most significant is the case of Sandra Lawrence, a convicted murderer who was paroled after 23 years in prison after the court held that to refuse parole there must be evidence that a prisoner is currently a danger to public safety. The court said the board could not base a refusal only on the details of the crime committed by the inmate long ago.

Devall said the finding has also been upheld in federal court.

Another recent case, she said, deals with inmates who are between 16 and 20-years-old at the time of their crimes and holds that they are more likely to be rehabilitated.

Van Houten was 19 when she joined other members of the Manson cult in the killings of Leno and Rosemary La Bianca.

Devall said the cases she will cite had not been decided at the time of Van Houten's last parole hearing. She said she will cite Van Houten's age, her youth at the time of the crimes and her extreme remorse. "There is no evidence of current dangerousness," she said.

The prosecutor who will argue against Van Houten's parole, Patrick Sequiera, did not return calls to the AP.

Van Houten was convicted of murder and conspiracy for her role in the slayings of the wealthy grocers. The La Biancas were stabbed to death in August 1969, one night after Manson's followers killed actress Sharon Tate and four others including celebrity hairdresser Jay Sebring, coffee heiress Abigail Folger, filmmaker Voityck Frykowksi and Steven Parent, a friend of the Tate estate's caretaker.

Van Houten did not participate in the Tate killings but went along the next night when the La Biancas were slain in their home. During the penalty phase of her trial she confessed to joining in stabbing Mrs. La Bianca after she was dead.

The Tate-La Bianca killings became one of the most notorious murder cases of the 20th Century and continues to rivet public attention 41 years later.

In past parole hearings Van Houten has apologized to the victims' families and expressed remorse for her actions.

If she is refused parole, it is uncertain when she would get another chance. Under a new law, the board can set the length of time between parole hearings at 3, 5, 7, 10 or 15 years. Prison officials said Van Houten is in good health.

COLD HARD TRUTH deliver the fear review

Every now & then there comes a band that I hear alot about online, & keep seeing the name pop up, This is one of those bands.. I had seen the name COLD HARD TRUTH about so many times I was really keen to finally hear them.
First up this band come from Boston, Boston england not Boston usa, yep I never knew there was a Boston in england either, but theres a Compton there too so anything is possible.
This band is TUFFGUY, theres so many bands trying to do this style, but they just suck & seem fake, but C.H.T is one of those bands that there is nothing fake about, 11 songs on this 2nd release from this band, & the thier first on German lable BEATDOWN HARDWARE RECORDS.
I think everysong on this release is strong sounding & no weak tunes.
2 songs feature KNUCKLEDUST frontman Pelbu, & they just came back from playing NY with the mighty BULLDOZE
I think anyband that uses the word cunt is good in my eyes haha, we need more lyrics like this. Musically it really reminds me of IRATE.
If you wanna hear a good tuffguy cd then you need this in your life, its the band you have been waiting for that fills that gap of all the bad tuffguy bands.

ROYAL RUMBLE demo 2010

First of all what a great name, any band with a name that has something to do with wrestling in it is ok by me.
This is another swedish band this time comming from Göteborg/Bjärred.
This is Old school SXE youth crew kinda style, the sound is raw & kinda budget sounding but I think that adds to it, people have been hating on this band in sweden a lil because of the rawness & the vocals, yeah they sound different from everything else, but thats what makes this band stand out & one of the reasons I have been playing this loads on my mp3 player this week.
They have a song called Meat is murder but no its not a cover by THE SMITHS, but still a song about the same cause. They also have a song thats a tribute to Rocky called Balboa.

The cover makes me laugh everytime I see it, for those who don't know which I think is gonna be pretty everyone who isn't swedish its the Swedish King.

Ronnie James Dio, whose soaring vocals, poetic lyrics and mythic tales of a never-ending struggle between good and evil broke new ground in heavy metal, died Sunday, according to a statement from his wife and manager. He was 67.
Dio revealed last summer that he was suffering from stomach cancer shortly after wrapping up a tour in Atlantic City, N.J. with the latest incarnation of Black Sabbath, under the name Heaven And Hell.

"Today my heart is broken," Wendy Dio wrote on the singer's site, adding he died at 7:45 a.m. "Many, many friends and family were able to say their private goodbyes before he peacefully passed away.
"Ronnie knew how much he was loved by all," Wendy Dio continued. "We so appreciate the love and support that you have all given us ... Please know he loved you all and his music will live on forever."

Dio rose to fame in 1975 as the first lead singer of Rainbow, the heavy metal band put together by guitarist Ritchie Blackmore, who had just quit Deep Purple.
Dio then replaced legendary vocalist Ozzy Osbourne in Black Sabbath in 1980 with the critically acclaimed album "Heaven And Hell," considered by many critics to be one of the finest heavy metal albums of all time. His on-again, off-again tenure with Black Sabbath touched off an intense debate among fans as to which singer was the true essence of the band — a discussion that lasted until his death.
He also enjoyed a successful solo career with his self-titled band, Dio, in between his three stints with Black Sabbath (1980-82; 1992; and 2007-2009, when the band toured as Heaven And Hell, to differentiate it from Osbourne-led versions of Sabbath). DEAD REPRISE set to release CD/LP (feat HF of Ringworm) in July!

Swedish hardcore band DEAD REPRISE will enter the legendary Abyss Studio (Celtic Frost, Dark Funeral, Hypocrisy) with producer Jonas Kjellgren (Scar Symmetry, ex-Carnal Forge) to record their 2nd full length in May. The new effort is entitled ”THE UNVEILING” and will be out on the 24th of July through Monument Records in Europe and Get This Right in the US. The official release show is on the 24th of July in Linköping, Sweden with one of their main influences Earth Crisis, who are back on swedish soil for the first time since 1997. ”The Unveiling” features 11 tracks including the track ”The Famine” with Human Furnace of Ringworm on guest vocals. Horrorstruck is a pretty new band, but its got my boy craw in so I had to make a point of knowing the score.

1, So Horrorstruck is a pretty new band, can you give me a history.

Yeah ... I've been playing bass in Six ft. Ditch for about 6 or 7 years ... It's gone so fast I can't remember the exact time. Because sfd play sporadic shows these days I wanted .. No i needed a band I could hold down consistently. I'd heard about, seen then played a few shows with a local band called Hellmouth who were getting a good reputation as musicians with nice ideas ... the vocalist at the
Time was gathering a different reputation, things went stale and the band disintegrated ...

I got in touch with guitarist chris .. Learned their set and Jammed out a couple of shows before realising we could rewrite a while
New set of better tunes ... Once we started writing a decision was taken to scrap hellmouth and form a new band with our new sound. Hellmouth had a clevo type
Sound and there was a " holy terror " vibe lyrically. That stuff is so far removed from my lifestyle and realm of concern that it had to go.

Then came HORRORSTRUCK

I write all the lyrics ... We write the music together as a 4 piece

2, Are any of you guys in any other bands?

Just me ... Currently in six ft ditch on bass ... Filling in on bass for knuckledust and in talks to reanimate some scab version of blades of unity which is a band I formed in 2001 during a tour of Ireland with from the ashes ( a band I played bass for back in the day ).

3, You played running riot last year how was that?

That was a good show for us to get ... Many thanks to may from total rock for the slot. The London scene has always been very good to my bands .... LBU despite the press they get are some of the nicest and most caring people in the UK scene ...

4, There seems to be a lot of new blood uk bands comming at the moment, is there any we should be looking out for??

New and old bands that need name dropping ..... Hard target, ambush, cold ones, face of Christ, mental block, precinct 13, bays, the process, vorhees ( reunion show 24th April in Leeds ), 50 caliber, ninebar ( new record dropping soon ) prowler, diction, special move ..... Check all

5, How would you describe horrorstrucks sound?? whats your influences?

Neglect is a big influence ... Not so much on sound but definately the vibe .... Someone said to me at a show in Manchester " watching your band really upset me .... It's the most negative vibe I've had at a hardcore show "

6, Where do you get Lyric idea's from?

From life .... Nothing made up in my lyrics .... Most songs are about the despair of losing my little brother.

Others are attacks on radicals ... The BNP ( Nazi party ) are gaining power where I live ... A lot of inbred racism and hatred based on colour ... So I attack them.

Rich kids infiltrating OUR street music .... They get it too.

Neck tattoos and nothing else means your a posing prick ... You're not down with us !

7, I heard you just played bass in knuckledust as stunt cock, how did that come about? & how where the shows?

Yeah that's right hahaha

I speak to ray who plays drums for KD a lot ... Usually about football !! He's irons ( west ham ) and I'm RED ( Liverpool FC ) ..... ( 3-0 by the way ).

One day out of the blue I get a message .... " you wanna play bass for Us for a few shows on the mainland as

For me the best band I heard since living in Sweden has gotta BIG DEAL so I asked guitarist XantonX a few questions

1, Big deal are from Sweden but what part of Sweden?
Big Deal is originally from Jönköping which is located in the southern part of Sweden, but Jake and Love moved to Malmö awhile ago so its split up between the two.

2, Who’s in the band & what do they play & how did BD start, how did you guys meet & decide to start a band
I pretty much met everyone in this band by going to local shows here in Jönköping, Jake played drums in a metal kind of band and Love used to do vocals in another band that blew the fuck up once he left haha. I always wanted to do a band since i was like 16 or something, but since there wasnt any guitar players wanting to play real hardcore i picked up a guitar and learned myself how to play and like 2 years later once i could play well enough we started to practice. We got Jake, myself, Martin and Love together for our first practice at the old local venue we used to run (RIP China) and we wrote our first song. We played our first show after a couple of practice sessions and it probably sounded pretty bad haha.
Martin left after awhile and we got our (young) man Amandus to play bass.

Current lineup is myself on guitar, Amandus Young on bass, Love on vocals and Jake on battery.

3,You guys did a demo & a 7inch I hear your recording soon, whats that gonna be for another 7inch?
Yeah we're going into the studio very soon to record a couple songs for a split 7" with Never Again from the UK. Sike!!!!!

4, Is that gonna be a split, what lables that gonna come out on, Tell me about that.
Split yeah mang, primarily on Green Menace Records! And maybe some others i dont really know right now.

5, So how did it come about green menace releasing your first 7inch?
I was around for that but Love and Bergfjord BS:ed one night, and one thing lead to another i guess and he wanted to release us!

6, Is anyone else in big deal in other bands?
I am, and i think Amandus is jamming with a few as well.

7, I know your in about 100, tell me a bit about each one.

Yeah we did a euro tour last year which was awesome, playing in Belgium, Germany and Poland pretty much ruled.. Poland is fucking awesome.

10, Tell me a little bit about the Swedish hardcore scene, the best bands we should look out for.
The swedish scene is getting better and better! Kids are actually stepping up now and starting their own bands which is awesome, there has always been a couple of people doing bands but now theres new kids coming up and thats way cool.
As far as shows go, there usually good and have a positive vibe which is cool, even if i personally would love to see more people fucking shit up and letting loose and not trying to make friends with everybody.

11, So when can we hear new music from BIG DEAL?
This summer! Hopefully in July.

I wrote my boy rico for an interview because he seems to be doing good stuff for german hardcore putting on the best shows etc, I've known him for quite a few years now, he was the guy who first gave SIX FT DITCH the first chance to play in germany all those years ago, & he's been a really good friend over the years, but I always wondered how it all started...

1, So when did you put your first show on, & can you remember who played on that show?

Of course. (laugh) first show is something you never forget. It was a pretty fucked up and bad one (laughs). It goes back to 2003, it was with Rise and Fall and The First Step. The bands played a great set. But the show in Bochum was in some underground junkhole runned by some punks. At that moment these punks had big problems with the authorities. The show was illegal, so i couldn’t do any big promotion. The result was that not many people showed up. Lots of local punks who showed up just watched the show outside, because they complained about the high entrance. It was 5 euros, haha. After this first disaster i learned a lot, so luckily the next shows were much better.

2, You seem to put the best shows on in germany, what shows have been your favorite ones you have put on?

Really? Thanks man, that’s a great compliment. Well I just like music and I always follow my heart. I never have an potential to create something to make money. Most of my shows start with an cool idea. When this plan seems to work out in the end and kids go home with a smile and had a great time then i’m really happy. Favourite ones? There’re just to many to mention. The Break down the Walls, Maximum Destruction or the infamous FWH festivals were something special. The first edition of Bringing back the glory couple of weeks ago was also amazing.

3, Whats the best & worst things about putting shows on?

Well the best thing about putting up shows is definitly, i can see the bands i really like. Worst things for sure are, you normally can’t enjoy it the way you want it haha! There’s always a lot of stres involved which affects your mood. Plus another bad thing about it, most of the time i'm broke. Because i dont work with any sponsors or companies, everything is diy!

4, Where did the name 17Stitches come from?

About 12 years ago i had a serious accident. The wound at my head got 17 stitches. I’m not gonna tell any more details about this accident haha! Just let me say it like this: don’t mix drugs and alcohol too much.

5, What would your dream line up be if you could pick 10 bands/artist alive or dead?

I got a couple of new shows comin up which (i think) have some dream line-ups for example the All Out War, Breakdown, Maximum Penalty show on 13th August. This show is gonna be crazy.

If i could choose a wet dream line-up then Fury of Five, Bodycount, Crown of Thornz, Neglect, Mushmouth, No Warning, District 9, Leeway, Bulldoze, Born from pain (old RTC line-up), Full Court Press, Cold as Life (with Jeff) and Drift should be on it.

6, I hear there is a DVD in the works can you tell me about that?

Yes it’s true, we’re working on a video compilation. It will hopefully come out at the end of the year. The dvd will feature footages of Bringing back the glory, FWHfest and some other shows.

7, What shows do you have comming up?

The 17Stitches & FWH Barbeque party on 5th June. Followed by a new edition of Filled With Hate fest which will be on 6 & 7 August. Then one week later the All out War, Breakdown & Maximum Penaly show will be. In October is a cool show with Death Threat coming up.

And keep your eyes open for an new edition of Bringing back the glory somewhere in March 2011.

8, You have worked with lots of bands, what bands have you really enjoyed working with?

To be honest there’re to many bands to mention. Bands who help out and show respect when things get rough, like when you loose money are the best ones.

9,Any last words or shout outs??

1, I can remember goodlife recordings from way back in the days, how did GL come about?

I was sick of working shitty jobs for shitty bosses. I dreamt it up, envisioned it, and went for it, from scratch,
with no knowledge, little funds and no experience but just my feel for talent to work with.

2, What was your first release?

3, I know you used to play in a band yourself, can you tell me a lil bit about that, they did a CD right?

Yup, started playing in the late 1980's, introducing political straight edge hardcore in Belgium and beyond, band's

I wrote all the songs and lyrics, played guitar, sang the melodic lines, did the artwork, etc. We released a slew
of 7"s, 3 CD's and countless cuts on compilations around the world.

4, I remember everyone used to go nuts for the good life festivals, did you ever think about bringing it back?

I agree, those festivals are now pretty legendary in retrospect. But bigger and more commercial sponsored festivals stole our concept and ran with it. Good for them but we could no longer compete. Our fests were 100% hardcore,
independent and never were sponsored, the way it should be ! And on a side note, fests for kids that are sponsored
by liquor, to me I find that immoral. Yuck.

5, GL is huge now & must be a full time job, with all the bands, merch, webstore how many people are part of the GL Family?

Actually Good Life was a full time job from day one. Due to people stopping buying music, we had to let two people
go, so we are now down to just 2 staff plus some freelance help from friends.

6, I know you must love every release of GL but do you have a favorite?

Every single release is my baby in a way, but Onesta and Nasty are my current favorites.

Apart from that I am very proud of having discovered and or first released records for bands that became pretty popular like Avenged Sevenfold, Poison The Well, Morning Again, As Friends Rust, 100 Demons, etc etc.

Many releases are slowly getting out of print and becoming collectible due to peeps completing their collections. Tons of releases are already completely sold out, bythe way.

7, You have had a few bands on GL that have gone on to be really big, can you tell me about some of those bands & what they released for you?

We did 2 records with Avenged Sevenfold, 3 with Poison The Well, and 3 with As Friends Rust.

8, Who is your favorite 10 artist/bands of all time, theres more to life that hardcore right?

Yup, only 100 were made and that version is now out of print. Each CD is signed and dedicated by Holly, has some of her photos on it and is hand numbered. I met her thru a mutual friend who informed me she was into hardcore and punk, and so we decided to work together, so she wears our bands' shirts in her movies and uses some of the music for the soundtracks.

10, What new bands have you got comming out on your lable?

We have new albums on the way by Nasty, Vietnom, Onesta, Slam Coke, King of Clubz and a new V/A called 'Beatdown Basterds', with nothing but exclusive tracks by the best beatdown hardcore bands across the globe !

Keith Elam (July 17, 1962–April 19, 2010, better known by his stage name Guru, was an Americann rapper and member of the hip-hop duo GangStarr. He was born in the Boston, neighborhood of Roxbury. The name Guru is a backronym that stands for Gifted Unlimited Rhymes Universal and the less-often used God is Universal; he is the Ruler Universal, which are both references to the teachings of the Nation of Gods and Earths.

Guru founded Gang Starr in 1987, and built a sizable following in the early 1990s, releasing classic albums such as Step in the Arena (1991) and Daily Operation (1992).
In 1993, he released his first solo album, Jazzmatazz, Vol. 1. The album featured collaborations with Donald Byrd, N'Dea Davenport, and Roy Ayers, while his second LP, Jazzmatazz, Vol. 2: The New Reality, featured Ramsey Lewis, Branford Marsalis and Jamiroquai.
His "first proper solo album", in his own words, was Version 7.0: The Street Scriptures (2005), released with the help of producer and new backup MC Solar (who is not to be confused with MC Solaar from France). The album reached #1 on the college hip-hop charts, but was a failure with both fans and critics. It still managed to sell relatively well for an independent release.
Guru's last projects were the fourth installment in the Jazzmatazz series, entirely produced by Solar, released in early June 2007, and Guru 8.0: Lost And Found, released May 19, 2008 (also in collaboration with Solar). Although there were hopes for a Gang Starr reunion, Guru stated he would not work with DJ Premier again.
Death
On February 28, 2010, Guru went into cardiac arrest and, following surgery, fell into a coma.He was said to have woken from the coma but died on April 19, 2010, after a long battle with multiple myeloma.

I was lucky to see gangstarr back in 1994 @ the reading festival, was an amazing show, Jeru even came out & did COME CLEAN.

BOXCUTTER "the ill testament" review

When I first heard that boxcutter we're going to do a new CD I got really excited, I love Ismean & everything he has ever done, he's one of the real people in hardcore that you can believe he really is mean. Its hard to belive that there last cd PITBULL WAYS came out way back in 2003, so at last the wait is over for the latest boxcutter release.

For those who don't know boxcutter is a super group featuring members from bands like FURY OF FIVE, ONE MAN ARMY,WISDOM IN CHAINS, KRUTCH & OUT TO WIN. This is there third release & 2nd full length.

First track on & its hip hop, so many hardcore bands have hip hop on there cd's I read someone once that six ft ditch was too blame for this haha, But people have been rapping in hardcore for years & even bands like UNDERDOG did it, so anyway first track KINGZ OF THUGZ & we even get to hear RICHIE KRUTCH rap a verse, KINGS OF THUGZ is the first of 3 hip hop tunes on the cd, 2 straight up kinda hip hop & the last a more crunk style new school, nice to hear some MOBB DEEP, BRAND NUBIAN lyrics thrown in for good measure.

‘CROWN OF RIGHTEOUSNESS’ Ismean son is featured on this track who goes by the name of J-rock & its all gone a bit LL COOL J, i'm not a big fan of kids on tracks, but the kid does have a good voice for his age & even does a rap.

"LEST DO THIS" has got to be one of my fav songs on this CD, the best lyrics "pick up a chair throw it in the air" well good, Bar room brawl thug rock.

They just recently played a show in Germany which I was gutted I missed, they don't play many shows, so if you get a chance to see them, you really should check them out. if you like Toughguy HC then this is up your street, but I think this appeals to everyone.

I love this cd, at first I was like yeah its pretty good, but now I really love it, its one of those cds, you expect it to be like the last, & in some ways it is, but moved to the next level, I just hope we don't have to wait another 6 years for the next album.

Peter Steele of heavy metal band Type O Negative has died of heart failure at age 48. Steele (born Petrus Ratajczyk), the burly 6'7" bassist and lead vocalist of the Brooklyn goth-metal band, formed Type O Negative in the early '90s after stints in several other groups, including the hardcore act Carnivore.

A spokesperson for Type O bandmates Kenny Hickey and Johnny Kelly confirmed the report to MTV News on Thursday (April 15). And according to CBS News, band manager Mike Renault sent an e-mail saying, "Peter passed away last night. As of now it appears to have been heart failure. That's all the details we have right now."The band's most recent label, SPV/Steamhammer Records, issued an online statement about Steele's passing. "It's with great sadness that we give our condolences to the family and friends of Peter Steele," it read. "He died on April 14th, 2010. Fuse metal hostess Mistress Juliya (Juliya Chernetsky) tweeted about the news on Wednesday. "Today is a very sad day in metal ... end of an era ... Peter Steele passed today," she wrote. "I loved my friend ... our idol ... my heart is with his band and family."

Blabbermouth.com, a site run by the band's former label, Roadrunner Records, also reported that Type O keyboardist Josh Silver had confirmed that Steele died on Wednesday. The label's staff posted a lengthy remembrance of Steele on Thursday.A rumor circulated that Steele had died in 2005, but that turned out to be a publicity stunt to promote their new record, making it difficult to assess the validity of this latest report. The earlier rumor sprung from an image of a tombstone with his name and the dates 1962-2005 that was briefly posted on the band's Web site but then removed. Steele reportedly suffered from clinical depression, reflected in the band's doom-laden lyrics, dark image and an often morbid sense of humor.

Type O released seven studio albums, with their most recent being 2007's Dead Again.

HELL BURNS AWAY hail from france & the first thing I gotta say about this cd is the artwork, I love it so much it really stands out was done by MIKE BUKOWSKI the same guy who did Donny brook, Comeback kid artwork. I have known about this band for a few years now & its really good they finally got there cd out, it was Mastered by DAVE LOCKE (blacklisted, guns up, have heart).

9 tracks of old school hardcore with a modern twist.

Can't wait to hear more from this band.

After various line-up changes, The sweden based band featuring members of SIX FT DITCH & BTOL have a steady line up finally, They have already written songs with the new line up & are very happy with the results, the band has found a new harder more 90's NYHC sound.

They go into the studio to record there first cd a MCD that will be released on german lable FILLED WITH HATE RECORDS later in the summer.

So I'm sure most of you don't know, but way back in the mid 90's I used to write a fanzine called GLUE, I had a really good time doing this, got to interview some awesome bands like WARZONE, SICK OF IT ALL, 25 TA LIFE, BACKFIRE!, MISFITS, MURPHYS LAW, KNUCKLEDUST & HATEBREED to name a few. So after all these years I have decided to bring it back as a webzine.
